Inspired by a passage in Patti Smith’s Just Kids, her National Book Prize memoir. As she stood at Irving Plaza, mesmerized by Jim Morrison’s performance, she had a realization:“I had a strange reaction watching Jim Morrison. I felt that i could do that. He exuded a mixture of beauty and self-loathing, and mystic pain, like a west coast Saint Sebastian.” (Just Kids, pg. 59)
